Jetpacks on your toes?

Creative, organised and energetic person needed to help grow a small business. Work from home with some flexible hours/days.

My name is Patrick and I run a thriving little business called The Picture Hanger, from my home in Brighton.

We arrange and hang pictures, art and mirrors in homes or offices.

We’re often called in to rehang a whole home when people have moved or renovated. Or to create a creative picture wall. Or to hang the heavy or valuable items people don’t have the confidence or skill to tackle themselves.

It’s a niche offering but there’s certainly a demand – we’ve grown from just me in 2010 to a flexible team of installers based in Brighton, London, Bristol and Birmingham.

Business is doing well overall, though of course we’ve slowed down since lockdown. It seems to be picking up slowly. Despite that there’s loads of ways we can grow the business, I just don’t have the time to implement all the ideas.

I’m looking for someone with a smile on their face and jetpacks on their toes to jump in and help me manifest lots of good ideas (yours and mine!) and grow the business.

You’d be involved in the day to day running of the business, including, bit not limited to, answering the phone, responding to customer enquiries, helping manage the installers, writing and posting blog/social posts, as well as business development and marketing.

You’ll need a great phone manner, enjoy writing emails and posts, maybe you have skills in basic photo editing (not photoshop necessarily), and a visual eye.

I’d also like help with setting up and managing an art studio/desk share space in Brighton. So as you can see the role is varied and interesting!

Ideally you’d have experience in operations in a small business, either your own or someone else’s. Or maybe you’ve been a project manager, PA, production manager/assistant or similar? Maybe you’ve worked in marketing or PR? I’m open to ideas, so you tell me how your experience best suits the role.

I’d like someone who can initially devote a minimum of 20 hours per week (but this could be more some weeks) and slowly increase to full time as the business grows.

You’d need to be available for a few flexible hours during the day each Thursday, Friday and Saturday to respond to incoming calls and email enquiries. You would be working alongside Muriel, who deals with email enquiries on other days. She lives in France.

The successful applicant would start on a one month trial on a freelance, self employed basis. After the first month we would agree on the best arrangement going forward.

If you think you tick most or all of these boxes then drop me an email telling me about yourself and why you’d like the role and what you can bring to it. I’m interested in seeing how you write so please don’t make it sound like a boring job application letter. Be creative, sell yourself and show me that you are creative, confident, organised and enthusiastic.
